Taron lost all track of time- days & nights ticked by like seconds on
a clock. Across the traffic in the street he kept his eye on Yogi,
carefully shadowing his movements through the city. When Yogi stepped
into a small merchant shop, Taron stopped & picked up a local
newspaper & pretended to read, looking over the indecipherable foriegn
text. He had not seen Yogi since he first met Astira in Prague, why
had he come to Poznan? What brought Yogi to Astira's family city?
Taron was now convinced that whatever Astira & Yogi were up to, it
involved much more than trading honey in the open market. As he turned
to find a more discreet vantage point he abruptly smashed into a wall-
for he stood face to face with a shocked Astira.

Beta kissed Toran goodbye & took the path from the mountain cabin down
to the lake- she just wanted to clear her mind. Thankfully, the autumn
weather held a pleasent dreamy quality which helped her contrasting
thoughts integrate into a smooth picture of reality, almost like a
camera focusing upon a dream.

Athena folded Astira's letter & rose to embrace Beta.
"Michelle, something happened & I have to go," said Beta as she
struggled to collect her thoughts to speak sensibly. Athena sensed her
distress & held Beta by her shoulders, looking into Beta's wet eyes.
"What happened?"
"Toran's brother, he's missing, maybe killed or something, we don't
know. But I have to go with Toran & find out."
Athena felt Beta's emotions instinctively, as if she were Beta.
"Where, where are going?" asked Athena, holding Beta.
"Some damn planet I've never heard of before," said Beta, "beyond the
barbarian worlds, near the center of the galaxy."
Athena brushed back Beta's sable hair from her face & asked
"Does this planet have a name?"
"Yes Michelle, it's called Poznan. Have you heard of this world?"
And then Athena slipped into a kind of shock.

Taron felt intuitively that something didn't add up. Astira's story as
told in public records was simple & brief- diagnosed with a mysterious
incurable illness at age eleven, she was then sent to a remote planet
called Samos in the Ionian cluster near the center of the galaxy-in
fact, rather close to Trantor, the capital of the Galactic Empire. For
the next ten years no information on Astira existed in public record-
her life in a small mental clinic on Samos was a perfect black hole.
Then, at age 21, a Dr. Kafka in Poznan stated that ambassador
Starkozki's daughter had staged a remarkable recovery and that she
could now now return to normal life. And there she was, beaming with
joy in her reunion photo. But something about the photo still didn't
add up. And then he noticed the small spot on her shoulder- yes, that
would be Spotz, her companion & bodyguard. And suddenly...

began hard & fast. He would turn over a brand new leaf right now-
