I. Mountain Castle

The Empire ruled by death & taxes. Princess Lei greeted the Trantorian Royal Ambassador, bowing to acknowledge her second tier status.

"Please rise." said the Ambassador.

"Now tell me Lei, what troubles your pretty little head?"

A sympathetic mime expression like a tragic mask drew tightly over his face.

"Ambassador, it is the third arrow of reform." she said.

"The third arrow?"

He looked around as if confused.

"Oh dear- I think I've lost count!"

The Ambassador then smiled broadly & laughed, turning to his amused court. She felt nothing that she had not felt before- a thousand times over. She looked up at the distant stars that formed a celestial roof in the castle ruins- she regained her balance.

The Ambassador turned back to her and said-

"My fair Princess, I'm looking everywhere for that third arrow!"

Suddenly with no warning the Ambassador jolted backward with a sickening thud, clutching with horror an arrow buried deep within his chest. She knew the war between the stars had just begun.

The Count held the sleeping Princess in his arms. The Pearl of Dreams could reveal the Truth and the Future- whether good or bad. Her eyes darted about beneath beautiful closed lids- he held her gently as she began to wake. Perhaps the Truth and the Future were too much for mere mortals to bear.

II. Paris

6 PM- the Count rose from a chair and walked to the balcony. There below on the street- like a summer butterfly- the Princess flitted about the flowering pedestrians, making her way to the Count's door.

Time never stops- unless you are the twinkling light of a distant star! Princess Lei looked across the bizarre moonscape of the high mountains- the ruins of an ancient castle stood high above her, cloaked in dark shadows of the full white moon. She touched her black diamond, the smooth black angular facets opened like tiny hyper-dimensional doors leading to all the distant corners of the galaxy. One of those black doors lead to the castle ruins above her- the mysterious shadow of a fallen Empire.

She had two weeks to turn around history. Kings & Queens ruled over their empires, but even Kings & Queens were servants to Time.

The red heat of the Basque sun died in the cold starry night- so tired, her thoughts trailed off into diffuse streams. But the mountains brought clarity and strength- a bright dream coming true.

The garden path shown in faint silver light beneath the intergalactic night. A black silhouette seemed to float upon the faint silver path- as if a mysterious spirit. Here Beta could free her mind of distraction, & think in clear deep streams of thought. Here the psychology of the crowd gave way to the individual light of reason- much as the Diamonds slowly rose in the eastern sky. Here she
could breathe free & liberate her heart.

Princess Lei stepped up to the short boarding ramp; in a moment she stood on the deck of the sailboat- the Blue Dauphine. A dark figure stepped into the star shine- she recognized with reassurance the familiar figure of the Count.

"Count, what a surprise- I didn't know you were a sailor." she said with mild amusement.

"Indeed I am," said the Count, with a nautical air.

"But my Lady, with whom do I have the pleasure of this acquaintance?"

Princess Lei paused.

"Count- it is me, Princess Lei." she said with mild concern.

"Ah, so good to meet you." said the Count. And then he turned with a thin smile to greet the figure of Fibonacci who had just climbed on board.

"A magician?" said Princess Lei, looking at the man with dubiety.
"Yes, I am."
"Well then, show me a trick!" and she flashed her devious smile.
"Princess, I don't do tricks. I'm not that kind of magician."
"Oh I see." she said slowly.
"Well then, what kind of magician are you?"
"I see the past, the present and even the future as one thing, one holistic structure. Everything is connected- nothing is random, there is no chance in our world!"
"None at all?" smiled the Princess,
"So our meeting here tonight isn't chance- but a weird form of destiny."
"Exactly!" said Fibonacci,
"Our world is like an intricate dream- everything, no matter how small, is connected to something else, no matter how far away in space or time, whether in the past or future. "
With that thought she looked out across the sea to the horizon of stars- she could just make out the white crescent sails of a small boat working its way to shore.

I. The Magicians

Princess Lei ran away from the crowd and walked toward the short boat ramp spiraling down to the sea. Several figures stood on a small ledge just above the water line near the base of the sloping ramp. There was no moon, but the backlight from town mixed with the luminous glow of stars concentrated in the galactic plane. Distant clouds were building over the sea, but the night sky remained largely clear. A delicate breeze carried the thin cool scent of the sea air.

When she reached the water's edge, one of the dark figures stepped forward.

"Princess Lei, let me introduce myself, I am Fibonacci the Magician."
