Astira was ten years old but preferred to be 13, not because it
was unlucky, but rather because it was Fibonacci. And now it was
Christmas Eve- the twentyfourth- both the sum & product of two
Fibonacci numbers, a result of gr8 cosmic significance. And now, back
from Samos, she reunited with her father for Christmas vacation in
Posnan.

Snow fell about the streets and travelling musicians from Londontown in the Central
Sector performed for coins thrown in their direction. A tall spindly
bard with a large beak danced & played in a hypnotic & otherworldly
crafting of emotion. Transfixed, Astira tossed a handful of silver
coins to the piteous yet magnificent trouper.

After the Count's banquet of escargot, black caviar, red octopus and
chocolate truffles, after the good Baron & the Lady Elliot retired
for the evening, & after the Count himself disappeared into his
chamber, the Turkish princess crept softly to the balcony at the
midnight hour, whereupon she contemplated the panorama of the heavens
and the myriad fates of living creatures such as the one's of her own
acquaintence. The silent splendor of night listened intently.

"The dreaming night holds bright a diamond light- a wish upon a star.
The waking day does pray for dreams to stay- to clasp a star so
far....."

Astira touched her shuffle. She wanted to listen in.

Everyone in the galaxy knew of the imaginary world named Earth from
galactic mythology- but that wasn't the point. Everyone knew the
mysterious & powerful Foundation imported metals & minerals & would
pay almost any price to get them- that was the point that mattered.
That fact supported an entire branch of forecast psychohistory.

The next day Count Bling & his two guests met outside a nearby cafe.
Animated protesters still roamed the Parisian streets. A number of the
protesters uttered rude catcalls.
------ 1 decade later-----
Astira controlled her fear. Then she got an idea. Grabbing a nearby
mop she poked the mop head just above the shipping crates. Suddenly
the mop head burst into a flaming effigy. In a bold move which
surprised even herself, she lunged into the open, dropped to a knee &
fired her laser pistol. Unlike the laser beam incinerating the ruse
mop, Astira's laser beam retraced a deadly accurate line to her target.

rose up from the streets below.
The Count moved quickly to the balcony, swung open the doors, and
surveyed the crowded nightime street below. Above the background din
he turned and announced to his guests-
" It appears we have yet another austerity riot, do not be alarmed by
the burning effigies."
----- 1 decade later -----
Astira checked the scene for one second & then scrambled for cover
behind a large pallet of shipping crates. Her heart raced.

away." said Layla, looking at Marc.
"As for myself, I am drawn to the Silk Path, about 50,000 light years
away on the eastern side of the galactic nucleus." And he could only
imagine the flow of psychohistory in the mystery of the Far East.....

Astira watched the Black Market Dragon and Miss Change bargain with
traders from the outer clan. Suddenly weapons were drawn and armed
warriors emerged from hiding and overwhelmed the Dragon.
Astira rose, somewhat stunned, to get a closer look. And then she saw
the deadly gleam of a ninja star. In a flash she dropped down & fired
her laser pistol- vaporizing the deadly star.

Marc Valentine looked up into the beautiful blue sky & then into
Layla's liquid eyes,
"I see, so when is this catastrophic wave 3 decline scheduled to begin?"
"Right about now." said Layla, hoping Marc would believe her.
As if on cue Count Bling appeared with a gracious smile....

Later that evening Count Bling escorted the Baron and Lady Elliot
back to his Parisian apartment. As the guests settled in for the
evening a young woman appeared in splendid dress appropriate for a
Turkish princess. The Count explained,
"You see, if I am her Siva she is my Parvati."

the rocks became but velvet cushions fit for a king. And then he fell
into a deep unconscious sleep....
Edmond heard the faint chirping of birds & he opened his eyes to the
morning light. His simple but elegant room lay open to the streets of
Paris via a modest balcony. As he rose the nightmares evanesced and
the day beckoned.

"Why yes, of course, Astira is old enough to begin school." &
ambassador Starkoski nodded to the Count.

Later that day the Count, the Ambassador & the Greek couple met &
discussed Astira's education. The young Greek couple explained that
their small unknown academy by the sea emphasized athletics, music,
the three "R"s & galactic history.
"I think Astira will be very happy." said the young woman with
sincerity.
"But," interjected the Ambassador, "what will Astira be able to do in
real life when she graduates from your academic hideaway?"
At this question the young man spoke," In a sense Ambassador
Starkoski, no one ever graduates- Astira will know how to use &
believe her own eyes & she will know how to use & believe her own
reasoning. Her education recognizes no authority apart from reality &
it never stops." Aristarchus paused to read the minds of the
Ambassador & the Count.
"But trully Ambassador, I feel that Astira will be very happy to begin
her exploration of galactic history on our island planet." & Athena
gazed sympathetically into the eyes of Ambassador Starkoski.

one hand a well known & estabolished Parisian figure, on the other
hand a cloaked mystery materialized in thin air. Before his arrival in the Spring of
Paris four years previous, there existed no information in the public
domain on a so called Count of Monte Sano. None. A blank space in
time. The Swiss Baron searched the historical archives on the galactic
network and found only an earlier reference to a similar mystery- a so
called Count of Monte Samos who died tragically at the hands of
Turkish smugglers. Could this whisper of history awaken the eye to
another facet of the same jewel?

gazed into space.

ambassador, and he spoke in earnest,
"But it is not for me to tempt my fate with cavalier purchase.
However, I believe I can assist your noble cause."
"You can?" said the ambassador, a fazed look crossing his face.
"Why yes," said the Count.
"Have you heard of Paradox Shipping?"
The ambassador thought for a long moment and said nothing.
The Count smiled, "Not many people far from the Silk Path know of
Paradox Shipping. From time to time they conduct large transactions in
bars of pure gold. You see, they frown upon intricate financial
instruments and the fiat currencies of our galaxy."
The ambassador seemed wary of uncharted waters, but the allure of gold
cash rose like the sun, and so finally he asked, " How do I make
contact with Paradox Shipping?"
At this the Count turned away and gazed upon a young woman dressed
smartly as if she were a Turkish princess.
"I suggest you contact my fencing companion, a Monsieur Valentine."
